About Hervey Bay

Hervey Bay is fast becoming one of Australia's most popular destinations for Australian and overseas visitors. Featuring a relaxed cosmopolitan lifestyle, Hervey Bay has a variety of entertainment venues and eateries from fine dining restaurants to trendy street cafes. The peaceful lifestyle, perfect sub tropical climate, pristine safe beaches and the wide range of attractions, activities and events make Hervey Bay the jewel in Queensland's tourism crown.

On the southern tip of the Great Barrier Reef, Hervey Bay has approximately 60 kilometers of water frontage. World heritage listed Fraser Island lies just offshore from Hervey Bay and is the world's largest sand island. Fraser Island has tropical rain forests, fresh water lakes, and an amazing array of fauna and flora. The region is also well known for its fishing and diving spots which attract many keen anglers and diving enthusiasts.

The region has much to offer locals and tourists including cycling, fishing, diving, cinemas, dining out, clubs, beaches, water sports, sporting clubs to suit all ages and shopping centers. Local festivals and events include the Whale Festival, Yagubi Multicultural Festival, and the Seafood Festival. Popular local attractions include the Shark Show, Neptune's Aquarium, the Botanical Gardens, the Urangan Pier, the Bungy Rocket, camel rides, go carts, the Tourist Drive, art galleries, historic museum, waterslides, mini golf and driving range, tea gardens, quad bike tours, day flights over Fraser Island by plane or helicopter, and the safe tranquil waters and golden sandy beaches.

As the Whale Watch Capital of the world, Hervey Bay provides a safe sheltered marine environment for the Humpback Whales every year from July to November as they return to the Antarctic. The Humpback's are the most acrobatic of all whales and put on a magnificent display for whale watchers, treating them to tail and pectoral slapping and breaches. This is the best opportunity to see these magnificent giants of the sea in their natural environment. Turtles, dugongs and dolphins are also spotted regularly.

Hervey Bay has all the conveniences of a modern city, yet it has still managed to retain its relaxing coastal charm.
